Last 23rd February some students from our school went
to Palencia to see the theatre play “Much Ado About nothing”. It was on at
Ortega Theatre and some other schools were there, too.
Before going to the theatre we visited the Centre for
Historical Research of the National Police “Rafael del Río”. There we learnt
the different specialities of the National Police, from the scientific police to
the GEOs. There were also uniforms of the whole history of this Force, as well
as badges, helmets, caps and other gear belonging to the National Police. Some
vehicles were displayed too, and we could see a “Papamóvil”, which was the most exciting piece at the exhibition. We
could also see an exhibition of fake art pieces that had been confiscated,
which was really interesting.
After this visit we walked all the way long to the
Ortega Theatre, where Shakespeare was waiting for us. It was a sunny day so we
didn’t mind the stroll. When we arrived
there, there was a long queue of students who were chatting cheerfully. Once
inside the lights turned off and silence was back again. We saw a hilarious version
of “Much Ado About Nothing”, a three-character perfomance full of funny gaps
and shocking moments, such as a rap like song or a double personality female
character.
At the end of the play the actors let the students
make questions. So we felt really close to them and they answered the questions
thoroughly and nicely. One of our students asked what their inspiration was; a
good question, taking into account the difficulty of reducing the play to only
three characters (the original version has more) and the effort of making it
attractive to teenagers (whether we like it or not). Good job!
